For many Virginians, access to broadband Internet is almost as common as cable TV or cell phones.
However, there still are plenty of areas in the commonwealth that don’t have broadband access. In fact, the U.S. Census says that 22 percent of Virginia households don’t have a broadband connection.
To help address the problem, Virginia has created an interactive map showing the availability of broadband access across the state. The map not only provides a broad overview of availability, but users also can enter an address to find Internet providers for that location.
“This new map will play a vital role in our efforts to ensure that all Virginians have access to affordable, reliable broadband services,” Technology Secretary Jim Duffey said in a news release. “Having the ability to identify and closely analyze unserved areas gives us the opportunity to strategically align resources and pursue collaborative efforts between public and private organizations to expand broadband coverage across the Commonwealth.”
