Our friends over at Richmond.com report that a couple of changes are coming to the popular First Fridays Art Walk after a skirmish at the June 3 event.
The altercation began in the 300 block of Broad Street after a crowd of about 200 people, lured by music, gathered outside the Talk of the Town barbershop, blocking the sidewalk and nearly spilling into the street. The barbershop was not participating in the event.
Several fights broke out after police began clearing the crowd, which was believed to be mostly teenagers. Two people were arrested.
As a result, two major changes will begin with the next First Fridays, which is July 1:
- Parking won’t be allowed on Broad Street between Belvidere and Fifth streets, but you can still park on side streets near the venues.
- Frist Fridays will begin and end an hour earlier. The new hours are 5 to 9 p.m.
You can read more about the the changes, and challenges, at First Fridays here.
