Have you seen this photo? It has spread across social media like wildfire, angering Twitter users and causing a nightmare for McDonald’s.

But it’s a hoax.

The photo has been retweeted again and again since it showed up over the weekend. It even generated a “Seriously, McDonald’s” trending topic on Twitter.

According to Yahoo News, the photo is not new. It apparently was posted on an anti-McDonald’s blog last year, but it recently gained new life when it showed up on the 4Chan message board.

No one has claimed credit for the hoax, which caused McDonald’s to go on a Twitter offensive to quell the uproar. Some have speculated that it’s the work of a disgruntled McDonald’s worker, but no one knows for sure.

Whoever created the sign, though, also takes a swipe at another fast-food giant. The number at the bottom is for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
