bonnaroo

Is this cool or is it too much like Big Brother?

If you’re going to the Bonnaroo music festival this year, your wristband will have an RFID tag in it, allowing you to voluntarily register the bracelet on the festival’s website. Bonnaroo organizers say the primary purpose of the tags is to cut down on counterfeiting, but you also can load your bracelet with your address and phone number if you want.

In addition, your bracelet can be integrated with your Facebook account so that you are automatically checked in as you wander from stage to stage, making your friends jealous as you take in Arcade Fire, Girl Talk and dozens of other performers.

Bonnaroo also says that registering your wristband will allow them to send you up-to-date festival information.

This may all sound rather benign, because most of us give up more information than we should on a regular basis. (Facebook, anyone?) But how long will it be before Bonnaroo makes registering wristbands as precondition for even getting in the gate?
