Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s latest stunt — allowing fans to download her new album, “Born This Way” from Amazon.com for a paltry 99 cents — has caused major headaches for the online retailer and left many buyers crying foul.

Fans so overwhelmed Amazon’s servers that buyers aren’t able to immediately download the album, Mashable reports. This prompted fans to retaliate by posting scores of 1-star reviews of the album on the site.

Amazon issued the following response to the technical difficulties:

Amazon is experiencing high volume and downloads are delayed. If customers order today, they will get the full Lady Gaga, Born This Way album for $0.99. Thanks for your patience.

The specially priced album was part of a promotional push for Amazon’s new Cloud Player service, which the Internet giant hopes will become a serious competitor to Apple’s iTunes.

However, if today’s debacle is any indication, Apple has nothing to worry about just yet.
